# Effective use cases

Each use case: a question to ask your agent, the answer, what happened behind the scenes, the data and the price.

## Competitor rate research

Find competitors' rate and rule filings, read their rate manuals and actuarial memos, and compare rate changes and profit provisions.

Ask: "How are carriers calculating the profit provision for personal auto in Florida? Which approved filings support the highest one?"

Answer: Five approved filings use four methods. Of these five, Root selects the highest provision: 9.7% for liability and 10.3% for physical damage.

| Carrier | Liab. / phys. dmg. | Filing |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Root Florida | 9.7% / 10.3% | FL-26-015198 |
| Allstate Fire & Casualty | 6.8% / 6.8% | FL-25-049337 |
| Nationwide General | 4.04% / 5.0% | FL-24-096058 |
| State Farm Mutual | 1.0% | FL-25-020575 |
| Auto Club Insurance Co. of Florida | 0.0% / 0.0% | FL-26-027243 |

## Filing prep and objections

Check a filing against state requirements before you submit it, and see what regulators objected to in similar filings.

Ask: "What did the New York DFS object to in recent private passenger auto rate filings?"

Answer: Recent letters on New York private passenger auto filings (August to October 2026) raise four kinds of issue:

| Issue | Carrier | Filing |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Show tort reform savings from Circular Letter No. 3 (2026) and complete Exhibit TR-1 | Standard Fire (Travelers) | TRVD-G134960408 |
| New vehicle symbols cannot go in a flex filing; file them separately | Palisades | HPIC-134906017 |
| Support the three-year expense averages in Exhibit J (RF-4) | Palisades | HPIC-134906017 |
| Use the current Rate Filing Sequence Checklist and report policyholders affected | Garrison P&C (USAA) | USAA-135069973 |

## Employer risk

Match a business to its OSHA records. Then read its inspections, citations, injuries and injury rates.

Ask: "We're quoting workers' comp for Tecta America. How does its OSHA record compare with other roofers?"

OSHA inspected it once since 2021: a serious fall protection citation at a Rhode Island roof job in March 2024, with the penalty cut from $6,452 to $4,516. No severe injury reports or deaths.
