## Example: Claude answering with Effective

Question: "How are carriers calculating the profit provision for personal auto in Florida? Which approved filings support the highest one?"

The agent searched approved Florida private passenger auto filings for "underwriting profit and contingencies" and read five profit and contingency exhibits. Of these five filings, Root selects the highest provision.

| Carrier | Method | Selected profit & contingency (liability / physical damage) | Filing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Root Florida | Target return on equity (20.4% after tax), less investment income | 9.7% / 10.3% (indicated 13.2% / 13.8%) | FL-26-015198 |
| Allstate Fire & Casualty | Cost of equity (13%), adjusted for payout and market-to-book | 6.8% / 6.8% (includes 1.0% contingency) | FL-25-049337 |
| Nationwide General | Florida's auto investment income rule (69O-175.001) | 4.04% / 5.0% (includes 1.5% contingency (phys. damage)) | FL-24-096058 |
| State Farm Mutual | Combined profit and contingency, after expected investment income (Exhibit 9) | 1.0% (combined) | FL-25-020575 |
| Auto Club Insurance Co. of Florida | Target return on equity (13.2% after tax), less investment income | 0.0% / 0.0% (indicated 1.5% / 3.2%) | FL-26-027243 |

- **Competitor rate research:** Find competitors' rate and rule filings, read their rate manuals and actuarial memos, and compare rate changes and profit provisions. [Details](https://effectiveai.dev/use-cases.md#competitor-rates)
- **Filing prep and objections:** Check a filing against state requirements before you submit it, and see what regulators objected to in similar filings. [Details](https://effectiveai.dev/use-cases.md#filing-prep)
- **Carrier financial checks:** Compare premiums, losses, licenses and loss development by state and line of business from NAIC statutory statements. [Details](https://effectiveai.dev/use-cases.md#carrier-checks)

## Questions

**Where does the data come from?** Public insurance records: rate, rule and form filings from SERFF and Florida IRFS, NAIC statutory statements, OSHA records and state regulators.

**How fresh is the data?** We cover all 50 states and DC. SERFF filings arrive within 24 to 48 hours after regulators make them available, with forms, rate impact and document text already extracted. Florida IRFS filing details arrive within 24 hours; their documents and extracted data are prepared when you ask for them.

**Can I check an answer?** Yes. Filings, documents and regulatory text link to their source. NAIC rows name the statement and exhibit they come from.

**Do I need to write code?** No. Add the Effective plugin in Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft 365 Copilot and sign in. Developers use the API or connect an agent to the MCP server.

**Should I use MCP or the API?** Use MCP for agents and chat tools, and the API for your own code. Both return the same data at the same price.

**What can an agent do with my account?** It acts with your permissions. It reads data, and it changes only your own filing workspaces when your role allows it. Preparing a filing does not submit it to a regulator.

**Can I use the data in my own product?** Our Terms of Service set how you can use Effective data. To build it into a product for others, contact us.
